G'Day Bob:

Thank you so much for your kind words and rating. I was clearly encroaching into this bird's comfort zone during this series - my point being - a longer lens would have been most beneficial; soon after this shot was taken the GBH took to its wings.

Ciao!

Leon,

Good shot and composition, it is a shame the head and eye of the Heron isn't a little sharper.
I find my eye is drawn to this and for me it spoils the overall result.
Remember this is only my opinon. Most of my shots are taken at ISO 400. The higher shutter speed gives you more chance of a sharp image, the additional noise can be removed easily with Neat Image.

Kindest Regards: Peter

G'Day Peter:

Thank you for your kind words. As for your eye being drawn to the eye(s) in photographs, I'm sure that's true for most, if not all of us (it is for me) - regardless of whether the subjects are human or wildlife. You're also correct about the eye of the heron not being perfectly sharp. I figured that with a shutter speed above 1/500 that the eye (and the rest of the bird) would have been frozen in time. In retrospect me thinks I was mistaken.

Conditions (heavy cloud cover) this afternoon required that I use ISO 400 (check out my posting of the Cedar Wax Wings). Even so, I was forced to use relatively low shutter speeds since the tele-zoom I'm using is not all that quick a lens. My photos of the Cedar Wax Wings certainly have more noise than I wish they did; even so the color came out rather well. Of course the relatively low shutter speeds resulted in a lot of movement; those little guys are very nervous, very twitchy.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Neat Image. I'll do a Google search and see what I can find out about it. I have Adobe Elements 2.0 but never used it. The only software I use to tweak my photo-files is a freebie named FastStone Image Viewer. It allows me to crop, re-size, tweak brightness, saturation, sharpness along with a few other things but it doesn't have a noise reduction component, but I sure do wish it did.

G'Day Natasha:

Thank You very much for your kind words. If the truth be known I actually expected more folks to comment about 'GBH - 6' than 'GBH - 7'; to me 'GBH - 6' seemed more dramatic, more intense; oh, well; cest la vie. Live and learn.

Yes, the previous image - 'GBH - 6' - absolutly amazing and I was ready to leave my comments. But once I saw heron of 'GBH-7' I was amazed to see the disappointment in its eyes. I can't to remain indifferent.
Sincerely,
Natasha SS

HA HA look at these eyes they tell a story I quote:What the ... #*@^!^@*# ??? I thought I see a fish?
Like this one very much , It's unbelievable how close you could get to it...

Nice picture Leon, I also prefer this one, the drops and the circular waves in the calm water maybe is not so dramatic ... but give more interest and expectation to the composition. Best regards, Ricardo

G'Day Fons:

Thanks once again. Imagine just how close you could get with your 300mm (!). Whoa!
