Great composition
It's a very good portrait. I'm going to be contrary and say that I think the picture needs a context to tell the story. I think it loses that by taking out the background. Maybe less blur would help. Also, maybe some adjustment to the background colors to mute them just a bit so they don't dominate the portrait.

Very good choice of grey curve. It gives a reality taste to the picture. I think this is not trivial: a lot of bw shots miss it.
