Nice macro, but more a snap shoot than a serious photo. I know how hard it is to capture this object. But your photo is missing sharpness and it has too much noise, the colours are bad.

I never claimed this to be a serious photo. It is just an opportunistic shot taken using a homemade macro lens and the depth of field is infinitessimal. F8 is the smallest aperature available on the C5050 in macro mode, so focus could not be improved. I was more concerned with capturing the ant and what he was doing, then I was with the overexposed driveway.
It is posted here only for casual interest as I thought it to be an unusual photo.

ps.. I agree this is not a 'pleasant to look at' image for many reasons including those you mentioned, but again, it's posted only because it is a unique capture of nature.
