taken freehand whilst having my boots shined at Boston's South Station. I hadn't seen a shoe shine person for over 20 years, so I could not resist the opportunity and had a chat with the man, an immigrant from Uganda, who feeds his extended family with his meager proceeds. He hadn't been home for 8 years... But that is incidental, the place seemed timeless to me, or at least, as if it could have been at any time in the 20th century and I became fascinated with the light in this hall.
