Whoa! Now that critter looks like it came straight out of the Jurassic - nice capture!!! Great exposure, focus and composition.

However, I'm a bit surprised you didn't tighten down the aperture a tad (~3.5-4) for just a bit more depth of field. The eye is extremely sharp but the ridge of its nose is just a bit out of focus. Just the same this is a great shot!

Thanks for sharing this image.

Thanks Natasha....you can keep these animals as a pet ...in captivity they will not grow very big...
In the wild they can grow to about 2 meters ...to big for the house innit....
This one I shot was about 45 cm....

nice shot

Love this shot, Fons. I agree with Leon about the sharpness though. However I can understand that any smaller an aperture would have meant sacrificing your fast shutter speed. Critters can be so unaccomodating when it comes to sitting still ;)

Thank you very much for this comment David.....
Yes shutter speed was very important for the moment of eating to freeze ....
Also handhold I did had nothing to support my camera....

Great shot Fons - the DOF doesn't bother me at all...the eyes and mouth are usually what makes a creature a little scary and you have captured both with great skill.....regards bevellee

the 2.8 gets you that great separation from the background at the cost of some sharpness on the animal. Too difficult to say what would have been better without trying it out. I like it a lot, it is very impressive. I would have cropped the animals wound on the right side.

Fons, sorry about my ignorance then!!! and thanks for correcting me. Your work is real strong, I just don't have much time to comment here any longer, I am over at fotocommunity.de, where I show my work. Some of it is analogue, so I cannot show it here.
Cheers, Joh
