3 Starlings in the backyard .
The winter color is a glossy iridescent black with purple and greens, the tips of the birds feathers have white stars. By spring the white feather tips have worn away, so that by the time of breeding season they are no longer noticeable.

Nice photo!

Perhaps it would be a nice result to see the third bird at the back as sharp as the other two.
But that is just a personal opinion!

DOF-OOF

Thanks Arnold for the comment,
I agree, if the three birds were all in focus it would be a better shot?
The focus point in this picture lies just behind the first bird.
Due of the aperture 3.5 and the focal length of 300mm the DOF is not that great as you see.
If I had focus on the second bird the first and third bird would probably being OOF.
Tried in CS to adjust the sharpness from the third bird ( selective ) but I was not happy with the result.

Thanks Shelley for the comment.

I was surprised also when I looked outside and there are these three birds sitting lined-up on this branch.
As I explained to Arnold it was hard to get all three birds in focus .
DOF is not great when shooting with 300mm and 3.5 aperture..

Hi Fons.

Perfect shot this is!!!!
Very sharp, and good colors. I don't mind at all that the third bird is unsharp. Because it is the only way to get the feeling of distance and the working composition.

Also the slighty coloration off pink makes it very vivid(living)

(If you can try it with photoshop: Copy for example the first bird and replace it over the third one. Then you will see a more dull image!!)

In short: Perfect winner!!!!

Thank you very much for this comment Fillip.
I did the copy as you suggested and it worked perfectly.

Anyway it was a good idea.....;-)

Thanks Ole,
I am glad that you like it also...;-)
PS.
I ask you about the place where you made the pictures from the Cormorants.
Can you tell me where is was?

Hi Fons....you are master with the birds....If you had the third bird in focus..... I definitely would have wanted the lens.....regards Bevellee

Thank you very much Bevellee,
I was already happy that the two birds where sharp.
The DOF with this aperture setting ( due of the low light we have in winter) is minimum.
I expect in summerday's to use a aperture of 8 the DOF will increase.
I bet you the birds will not show up then.....;-)

Once agian very well done Fons,

I like this picture, because the third bird also looks to the subject in this picture - the two other birds-.
When he looks in the same direction, its makes the picture less to a composition. You only ask yourself: what are they looking for.
Now only the head of the third bird is sharp and suggests the ohter two are the maine subject.

Thanks Hans

I see that you bought the 300mm lens Fons. With results like this you must be pleased with it. Considering the weather looks pretty dull the resulting picture looks sharp and punchy, nice photo of three birds together.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the comment and nice to hear from you again.
Yes I like this lens very much, it's a tool that everybody should have when making birds photo?s.
Little minus; its very heavy you need always a tripod.
The weather is indeed dull....rain ,frost ,clouds , snow you name it we have it all...;-((
No good for taking pictures not an of light , can't wait that Spring comes around the corner...
Where are you posting at the moment? Or don't you ?
Hope to hear from you again in the near future....
