Stand-by for the Genacker
This is helmesman Mitch Booth (#3 in the world) and his crew Herbert Dercksen preparing to round up and hoist their Genacker (the blue sail packed in the front of the boat).
It is one of my better pictures from the Europeans in Tornado, an Olympic sailing class considered something like an F1 counterpart in sailing. Unfortunately, the wind was very calm this week but fortunately, on such boats, they move fast and there is some action going on even under such conditions so I got something interesting to shoot anyway. Cheers, Jens.

Yes, it is taken from a small 4-5 m outboarder boat. It takes some training to get the horizon straight in this situation.

Of course not! If it get splashed with seawater, I simply flush it wit fresh water to get rid of the salt.

I'm glad you liked it!

The cool thing about this shot is the low DOF, which focuses the attention on the boat. By the way, where did this competition take place ?

Yes, the large aperture of the Digital Zuiko ED 50-20072.8-3.5 works beautifully in this case. - And... it doesn't hurt that this lens is pin sharp from edge to edge even wide open :-) It delivers when used correctly!

The Tornado Europeans were held in the waters outside V?stervik at the Swedish Baltic Sea coast. I shot it on assignment from the Swedish Sailing Federation and could come very close to the action as I was in small outboarder boat together with a TV photographer.
Cheers, Jens.

Stand-by for the Genacker
Funny, it did not stay long. I still believe this is the best shot for this week so far; both technically and in composition.
