Good shot. Personally I would have cropped away the background wall. Is this a JPEG out of the camera?

Interesting. I took the picture to show the progression from solid ice along the wall to freezing crystals further out. Alfred's suggestion prompted me to try a variety of crops.

I liked this one best http://myolympus.org/document.php?id=19900&full=1 probably because it still shows the ice progression, though the shore connection is lost.

Close second is this crop for abstract geometric shapes http://myolympus.org/document.php?id=19901&full=1

Thanks

Eben

Alfred, yes, this is a JPG straight from the camera (other than cropping).

FWIW, Unless there is a need to do otherwise (such as a fast shutter speed for birds taking off) I generally shoot at a fixed F/8 aperture and leave all else on automatic. Most shots are one handed because the other is holding the paddle to stabilize the kayak.

I use the LCD on the back because I can frame the shot by moving my hand without leaning to look through the viewfinder. Leaning in a narrow kayak has a very high penalty :- )

There is a trick roll where you pass a brick over the bottom of the kayak as you are upside down - keeping the brick dry. I have no desire to try that with my camera!
