Nice detail in the wood and nice idea to view the fence through the hole. Have you tried a squarer format cropping the right hand side and allowing the eye to follow the fence around to the left? Regards, Mike

I tend to agree with Mike. Great detail in the post, great idea to frame the fence through the hole in the post, but a little too much of a dead centre composition for my preference. (Of course, you may have been avoiding some incredibly ugly thing just out of frame to the left!)

Mike,
Thank you for your comment, and I was torn with composition and the desire to show more of the post.

Jim,
Thank you for your comment. In order to peak through the hole I had to go dead on. It does break the rule of thirds in composition.

Old fence
Mark-
I have more of an emotional response to this image. The detail of the cutout vs. the age of the post implies a passionate effort of design and build to create this fence. The craftsman went to an extreme effort cutting those slots.
I like the old wood/lichen/weathered signature of the post.
Fences inspire notions of borders, containment, boundaries, of course all of this in a lifetime past... as captured very creatively in your image.

Bob,
I certainly like your take on this, and I am flattered. You know any print I make of this will be accompanied by your words, just in case the viewer didn't quite pick up on this.........
