The Bottom of Bennachie

Karen -

I love this composition; however, while you have a spot-on exposure reading for the sky you have ended up with the foreground being underexposed (~3/4 f-stop - by my estimation) losing all detail on the dark side of the rocks.

If you had taken an exposure reading off the dark side of the rocks in the foreground and compensated in the final exposure setting of your camera you would have ended up with a far more dynamic exposure range in the final image.

All is not lost - there are some (free) software applications (download-able from the 'net) that allow you to correct this.

Ciao!

The Bottom of Bennachie

Hello Karen,

Beautiful shot! I wondered when it was taken, it can't have been lately with all the haar we have been getting over here!

Kindest regards: Karen
