1:1 crop from previous dragonfly photo. 1.8 meter minimum focus distance. No processing applied. f/8 to get a bit of depth of field (f/4 is the width of a small ant at minimum focal distance!). This is not a macro lens, but it is very close - when very far away from the subject!

Macro

Macro, as in maximum enlarged image. I use a 150 mm Macro, and at 5 feet that's about as close as I get dragonflies usually, sometimes I can get Damsels at 2 feet. Even Macros get cropped a bit.

Straight out of the camera this is really quite good.

I think this lens should do DF work like this wonderfully at about F 11-14. Take a test on a tripod and some stationary woven fabric were small threads are visible and start at 2.8 and run it all the other way, it's a good learning experience for each lens I own. I get to know which ranges I consider tolerable and preferred, for each lens.
