Leon Plympton	Great Blue Heron - 4 This shot is a bit unusual; the only time I've seen a GBH strike this pose it was on a nest - not the ground. I was initially concerned that this bird might be lame. Fortunately, such was not the case. When I took another couple of steps it arose to maximum height (~4+ feet / ~1.3 meters). Leon Plympton	Great Blue Heron - 5 This is another slightly unusual shot of a GBH. Not long after this bird stood to its full height (see previous posting) it shook itself, not unlike a dog does when it's soaking wet (which this bird was not). The end result was a rather fluffy GBH. The feathers settled down soon enough, but in the meantime I couldn't resist taking this 'bad hair day' shot.	Common area	05-Apr-2007
Leon Plympton	Great Blue Heron - 6 GOTCHA!!! Not very long ago Fons posted an amazing photo of a Grey Heron lurching from the banks of an estuary into the water after prey. As I'd mentioned then I had never seen a GBH engage in similar tactics. This posting (GBH -6) is typical of GBHs; first they stalk; then they assume a striking pose (not unlike a snake), the neck curled and the eyes zeroed in on the prey; then they strike.
