Beautiful bird this is, it's about time you invest in a long lens Leon because these species are so nice to photograph you will enjoy it even more I think..

You have no idea how much I would love to invest in a longer lens (or two). On my short list is the ZD 50-200 and the Sigma 150 macro. BTW: Do you have any experience using the Zuiko 1.4 TC with your Sigma 150mm macro?

I've seen plenty of shots taken with the 50-200 and the 1.4 TC, and those photos have convinced me that this combination succeeds in lengthening the reach of the lens without degrading the image quality.

On the other hand I haven't seen any photos reported to have been taken with the Sigma 150 and the 1.4 TC.

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever find a Zuiko 300 or 90-250 zoom lens in my gadget bag (sigh ... ); however, I sure would like to see the good folks at Olympus-Zuiko develop and market a mid-level, weatherized 100-300/~f-2.8 - f3.5 zoom lens. Something like that would really make my day.

Yes; even with the 50% crop there is still enough of the egret's surroundings to get an idea of the prairie. Of course, without the crop you get a much better idea of the expansiveness of the prairie but then you lose detail of the egret (what to do? what to do?).

There was a time not long ago when I was considering doing just what you recommend - get the OM 300/f-4.5 on ebay, but then I read on another website that caters to 4/3 shooters where that lens was only given a 'mediocre' review when it came to image quality. But then I took a look at the photo you linked (which is mighty fine), and now I'm so confused!!!

FWIW: There is currently an OM 300/f-4.5 on ebay; the current bid is $70 - with 3 days and 4 hours to go. I'm sure the bidding will rise, especially since the lens is described as 'near mint' condition. Do you mind my asking how much you paid for your OM 300mm?

Also, there's a Vivitar Series 1 90mm/f-2.5 macro; the bidding is only $50.99 - with 6+ hours to go. I have experience with this lens and they are good as they come (for a manual focus macro) - better than anything Nikon and Canon were producing back in the day; these lenses are razor sharp.
