Thanks for the comment and feedback Katrina. This shot is cropped from the original. I generally try to keep my images in one of the "standard" formats (4:3 or in this case 3:2). With fireworks you don't really have an opportunity to change the framing as you shoot, so whatever shows up in the frame is kind of what you have to work with. Getting rid of some of that negative space and getting the bursts a little higher would have been "better" from a composition standpoint (rule of thirds for example), but I didn't want to crop too much on the sides of the bursts or have a square image. Not sure how I could have done that, other than to have had my lens zoomed in further, and then I would have missed some of the burst. People are so much easier to shoot! I can get them to pose and adjust my composition before I take the picture :)
