Model release available:
Camera: Olympus E300
Exposure time: 1/2000
Aperture: 5.6
Focal length: c. 150-200
Lens: Tokina ATX 50-250 K Mount
Focusing method: Spot
ISO: 200
White balance: Auto
Flash: no
Image format: SHQ
Processing applied: Heavy crop, color correction, minor unsharp in Elements 3.0. Began with autofix and the increased contrast very slightly.
Various: Because I had not set the camera correctly, having little experience with the lens on brand new camera (I used spot meter by mistake; something that cannot be done with lens adapter), the photo was dramatically underexposed and rescued by Elements 3.0. Note the photo was heavily cropped. I thought it might be of interest to people who want to use lens adapters and non-Oly, non-dslr lenses with this camera, and take a chance on the autofix features of a program like Elements 3.0. Additional tech info below. Exposure set in 'A' position. Note the lens is over 20 years old.

You are right...

...about that lens being very sharp. The details on the foilage is extremely nice and I am surprised how good it turned out despite the spot metering mishap and SHQ. It looks a little funny over in the shadowed part of the track in the far distant to the right - like a bit too much shadow fill.

Some critique on the image - if you don't mind: The composition is pretty much according to the textbook with a clear diagonal guiding the eye to the main subject which is placed a bit off-center. The space 'in front' of the train to the left is well utilized to show some of the environment. Good work! I like the colours as well.

Cheers, Jens.

Commuter train comment

Thanks Jens, I appreciate your input. As a tad of explanation, I have been documenting passenger railroading for (gasp!) almost 40 years and often have a tendency to do a somewhat 'conventional' photo. Some of my other work is a bit more creative. I was so pleased with the lens and output I couldn't resist posting the pic. Incidentally, I am learning that my lens is considered one of the best zooms of its kind ever made. With a 2x coverter it is feels like it could read a newspaper on the moon.
