I really like the contrasting textures. Have you tried cropping as a vertical? It might put a little more emphasis on the door and remove part of the hee shadow in the lower left.

Thanks for looking and commenting. I have thought about lightening the shadow. I conceived of the shot in the shape presented, with a matching border, and worried that cropping to a vertical would alter the echo of repetitive semi-square shapes. But it's certainly worth a try.
