Striking
Very well done. Central placement of the subject doesn't usually work, but you have done very well with lighting in the background to make the whole picture come together.
You said you would add technical data later - I'm curious. Is the background natural? Was the photo taken outside, or in the studio? Background held behind the spider?

NO SUBJECT
Hello Jim,
The spider was in my backyard in the late afternoon. The background was totally natural--it was a wooden plank that was up against the side of the porch. I was facing west as the sun was going down, but there was laundry hanging which acted as a natural filter. I took many photos of this spider, but this one looked the best. I increased the contrast and saturation to give a richer color.
