Once again you've posted another excellent example of automotive history. It's too bad the driver did not dress appropriately for the era. After all, they aren't racing at these events; they're on a joy ride.

In the days of this Maserati the helmets that were in vogue just covered the top of the head; the driver's ears were covered in leather that ultimately narrowed for a strap that was snapped or buckled under the chin.

There were no driving suits back then, just whatever the driver felt like wearing. Some, like Mike Hawthorn, wore a tie; others, like Carroll Shelby, wore barnyard overalls.

Really enjoy this, wonderful colors, sharp, and an amazing automobile.

I know what you mean Leon - unfortunately, because they are actually racing they are required to wear modern gear. The Mercedes photo was a display lap, so the driver could wear the proper gear.

The owners/drivers of these vintage racing cars certainly give them 'the beans' and are racing for real :)
