Excellent capture. Looks like a Mayfly, but wrong time of year here in UK - where are you Dave? Also known as Day Flies, Shadflies, Lake Flies, Fish Flies. Like the Dragonflies, these are a very primitive insect.

I don't know the species, but it certainly does look primitive!

Great focus, especailly on the wing detail and head. How big is it really?

You know, I really should have measured it. It certainly sat still long enough! My best guess is that the head to the back of the wings measured probably 20-25mm.
