This butterfly (Monarch? // Viceroy?) was resting on this leaf for quite some time. Normally speaking it should have been an easy shot; however, it was rather windy, and everything (the leaf, the butterfly et cetera) was rocking and rolling. Also - the butterfly would open and close its wings, so perfect timing was essential to catch the wings in their horizontal position, so what might appear to have been a simple 'snapshot' wasn't quite so simple.

BUTTERFLY - 001 - re-visited:

Fons -

I am humbled, receiving such praise from das meister.

I do wish the left wing was in better focus, but with the wind blowing as it was and the sporadic opening and closing of the butterfly's wings I had to take my shot when I could.

As I just mentioned to Rina elsewhere I believe I may experiment using ISO 400 the next time I trek on the prairie for faster shutter speeds and/or tighter aperture settings.
