Udo,
Perhaps you will disagree with me but when I see completely white highlights I interpret it as the areas that are not restorable. The greens and yellows do look quite nice, but the whites are completely destructive. Just like on this early one of mine;

I think there's a difference between overexposed parts as an "incident" or caused by difficult lighting conditions and such that were intended as in this case. Here I didn't like how the background turned out and I intended a light-flooded impression. Actually it was a very hazy day.

Sure. But choosing an artificial BG is not so uncommon. I myself have more difficulties with a complete black background ...
